A resident's guide to eating in Marbella
By Nicole Beyer · 5 June 2026 · 5 min read

The old town places locals actually book, and why the best meal on the coast is inland.
Marbella eats well, but the good addresses are not always the visible ones. After thirty years here, this is roughly the list we give friends.
The old town
Behind Plaza de los Naranjos the streets narrow and the prices halve. This is where residents eat — small Andalusian kitchens doing three things extremely well rather than forty things adequately. Book, even midweek; the rooms are tiny.
The port
Puerto Banús does spectacle very well and dinner variably. The exceptions are worth knowing and worth reserving. Ask us — the list changes faster than any guidebook can keep up with.
Inland
Drive twenty minutes up towards Istán or Ojén and the coast disappears. Mountain villages, wood fire, goat and game, a bottle of something local, and a bill that will make you laugh after a week of beach clubs. This is the meal people remember from their first visit.
